The VRP Community Advisory Group is recruiting members…

The Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) has an exciting opportunity for members of West Yorkshire’s community to join our Community Advisory Group.

Members will be asked to use their local knowledge to discuss their concerns around serious violence, the challenges communities are facing and how these concerns can be addressed.

The role includes attendance at meetings to give us your (and your communities) thoughts and feelings around serious violence, involvement in scoring community coproduction initiatives and specific involvement in task and finish groups around particular workstreams (if of interest). Most importantly, this group will be owned and chaired by members – providing a voice for the community.

Based on the Ambitions highlighted in the recently published Needs Assessment and Response Strategy, we would be keen to invite volunteers to join us from all districts across West Yorkshire and who represent:

  • Lived experience (of victimisation or offending).
  • Criminal justice.
  • Reducing reoffending.
  • Domestic and sexual abuse.
  • Health.
  • Multiple and complex needs.
  • Minority groups.
  • Women and girls.
  • Young people.
  • Education.

Expressions of interest are also welcome from community volunteers who sit outside the above list.

Criteria for Members:

  • Aged 18 and over.
  • Live within West Yorkshire.
  • Open to learning about the work of the VRP.
  • Willing to contribute to discussions about local and regional serious violence.
  • Willing to share key community safety messages.
  • Willing to represent the CAG and community on other meetings.
  • Be able to volunteer your time for a minimum of 90 minutes every two months for meetings (either virtually or in-person).

Hearing From Our Members

I’ve had a fantastic few years in this role and It’s been great to be part of a strong West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership public health team working to reduce serious violence.

Cllr Susan Fricker Outgoing chair Community Advisory Group 2022-2023

As a female member of the group, I have found it particularly empowering and inspiring to be able to contribute towards the various efforts that are being made to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls in West Yorkshire. I am looking forward to continuing being part of this group for the next year and believe the group's input and guidance can make a real difference to help reduce violence in West Yorkshire.
