  • Only keep your data that we need for the purposes stated
  • Keep your data safe and accurate
  • Only keep your data for as long as is necessary for the purposes stated
  • Collect, store and use your data in a way which does not break any data protection laws

Purpose

In order to create a meaningful pledge, it is necessary to require those wishing to sign the pledge to register a small amount of personal information, such as their name and email address. Unless you opt in to further contact this information will only be stored for the purposes of registering your pledge.

If you opt in to further contact from West Yorkshire Vision Zero you will receive updates to your email address with news, events, and opportunities to get involved with Vision Zero. You can opt out at any time using the contact details supplied below.

Dedications

The Vision Zero Pledge gives the option to dedicate the pledge in someone’s memory. If this box is completed the dedication will be added to the Vision Zero Dedication webpage as well as used on social media for the purpose of raising awareness of the pledge by demonstrating real-life situations behind the statistics. The dedications will be published as anonymous.

Disclosure of data

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority uses DotDigital (which is a survey platform) to collect this information. The personal information you submit will be held within DotDigital’s systems.

We will not share your information with any organisation or third party, except in certain circumstances, which are:

  1. if we have a legal obligation to do so or if we are required or requested to do so by a competent authority such as the police or a court;
  2. if we need to use or disclose your information to obtain legal advice or in connection with legal proceedings;
  3. if we need to share your information to protect your vital interests if you are unable to give us consent or it is unreasonable for us to ask for your consent in the circumstances (e.g. if you are injured).

Retention of data

We will retain your information for a period of two years for the purposes of verifying individuals signing pledges. When consenting to receiving updates, we will retain and use your name and email address to contact you with updates on Vision Zero. After the retention period expires your information will be anonymised unless we get consent to continue to hold it. This is in accordance with our information retention policy and on the expiration of such period we will safely delete it.

Lawful Basis

Information provided to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will be processed under Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR which states that the data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specified purposes.

Your Rights

As a data subject you have a number of rights under the DPA. These include the right to access the information which we hold about you. You also have the right, at any time, to request us to stop processing and storing your data. Please note this may result in the withdrawal of your pledge.

This would not affect the legality of what we do with your personal data before you make such a request and would not stop us from continuing to use your data to the extent that we do not require your consent. It would stop us from further using data for purposes which require your consent (e.g. marketing).

We act in accordance with our corporate privacy notice, which provides further information on personal data processing, how to contact the Data Protection Officer, and how to make a request:

If you are unsatisfied with the manner in which we collect or handle your personal data, you have a right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Information about how to make complaints can be found on the ICO’s website at https://ico.org.uk.
