Call for Evidence on Serious Violence

A call for evidence has been launched to inform the development of a new Serious Violence Strategy for West Yorkshire.

Call for Evidence on Serious Violence

Tracy Brabin, the Mayor of West Yorkshire has launched the consultation to inform her second Police and Crime Plan 2024-28.

The Mayor is urging everyone in West Yorkshire to get involved at #TellTracy about their policing and community safety priorities. The new plan will re- set her current priorities and move us forward from the important work already delivered across West Yorkshire.

Importantly the plan has a spotlight on Serious Violence, and she has pledged to deliver a new Serious Violence Strategy for West Yorkshire which she wants to co-produce with West Yorkshire Communities.

To help with this she is launching a ‘’Call for evidence on Serious Violence’’.

Supporting documents and information
What is the call for evidence?

We are seeking your views to inform the development of a new Serious Violence strategy for West Yorkshire. We are especially keen to hear from individuals and communities affected by serious violent crime, especially including those who feel underrepresented or unheard.

We value the perspectives of those with lived experiences, as well as professionals and advocates who support them, and those involved in prevention, intervention and service provision. Everyone aged 16 and over are invited to contribute their views.

Definition of Serious Violence

To support the strategy development, we are defining serious violence as:

Definition: “Violence and serious violence includes specific crime types where there is the use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community."

The specific crime types for West Yorkshire include homicide, knife crime, violence against the person, personal robbery, gun crime, violence against women and girls, organised crime (including county lines), sexual exploitation and domestic abuse.

How to participate

We welcome evidence from groups and individuals via email to consultation.pc@westyorks-ca.gov.uk

Which could include collective views, expertise, research, reports, local data

The call for evidence will feed directly into the new Plan which sets the strategic direction for West Yorkshire Police, community safety partners and commissioned services over the next four years.
