A629 Calder and Hebble Junction

A629 Calder and Hebble Junction

The A629 Halifax to Huddersfield Corridor Improvement is the largest individual scheme within the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund.

The £120m package of schemes along the A629 corridor between Halifax and Huddersfield will drive economic growth by addressing transport and accessibility issues.

This project concentrates upon the Calder and Hebble junction, an interchange which is widely acknowledged as Calderdale’s most significant congestion pinch point. Over 40,000 vehicles per day, with 4,500 per hour in the peak periods, contribute to extensive congestion at the Calder and Hebble junction.

The project will reduce congestion and improve air quality by moving the road line to reduce the impact on the busiest areas and to allow inclusion of a full width footway and cycle path. A new bridge spanning the Calder and Hebble Navigation will link the A629 with a roundabout on Stainland Road. A dual carriageway from Calder and Hebble junction through to new traffic lights at the Jubilee Road junction will be introduced. There will also be a new northbound bus lane to improve bus reliability and journey times, which will encourage a reduction in single car occupancy. In addition, area improvements will create an attractive landscape leading into Halifax.

These major improvements will significantly improve journey times, which will encourage economic growth opportunities through access to business and employment in the area.
