Skipton Flood Alleviation

Eller Beck Dam

We’ve invested £1.5 million of Leeds City Region Growth Deal funding into flood alleviation works in Skipton, designed to provide one in 100 year protection for up to 400 homes and 165 businesses, while also converting flood plain into land suitable for development.

The funding, which forms part of a £17.8 million investment, will reduce the risk of overflow from Eller Beck and Waller Hill Beck, which often swells very quickly after heavy rain.

Works we’ve part-funded include added flood protection in the town centre and the creation of two flood storage areas upstream.

Once finished and in operation, the flood storage areas will be able to store a combined total of 130 million gallons of water, equivalent to 230 Olympic sized swimming pools.
