That’s precisely what is on offer at West Yorkshire Combined Authority where a £1bn devolution deal has put the Leeds City Region at the forefront of the Government’s Northern Powerhouse delivery agenda.

The Combined Authority brings together five districts plus York, the business community via Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and also takes in the former Passenger Transport Executive (branded Metro. Overall, the Combined Authority covers a population of around 2.5 million people and represents the largest economy outside London.

The role

We are looking to appoint an outstanding person to provide strategic leadership for the development, delivery and continuous improvement of services to support schools to build their careers and enterprise education and activity. You will lead a team of outward-facing Enterprise Coordinators, co-funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC), and will be the lead point of contact for the LEP and Combined Authority with the CEC.

You will be responsible for achieving our ambitious targets, including growing our activity to achieve full coverage across the city region’s secondary schools and colleges, resulting in improved employability, enterprise & careers education, with enhanced activity targeted at 18,000 disadvantaged students in 2019/20. You will develop effective strategic relationships with partners, particularly our partner Local Authorities, to ensure that the offer is tailored at a local level to respond to priorities and to provide additionality to existing activity.

As a key part of the Employment and Skills management team, you will contribute to the development of future priorities. You will secure the required resources to successfully deliver these priorities, including via applications for external funding.

The person

With detailed knowledge and understanding of local, regional and national skills and careers policy, you will have extensive experience of engaging with senior leaders in schools and colleges to influence their approach to careers and enterprise education and activity in line with school improvement planning.

You will have detailed knowledge and understanding of the offers available to support schools in the city region to develop high quality and impartial careers and enterprise activity. You will have demonstrable experience of building excellent networks across organisations with different priorities.

You will be an excellent people manager, able to lead and motivate staff that are located remotely.

You will have experience of managing complex externally funded budgets.

Secondments from the Combined Authority or external organisations will be considered for this post. In line with the Combined Authority’s Secondments Policy, internal applicants interested in a secondment must have 12 months’ service in their current role.

Please note:  Whilst it is our policy to recruit at SP1 for all appointments, each role has career salary progression, with incremental increases applicable in most cases on an annual basis.
