Learning & Development

The Combined Authority has a comprehensive learning and development policy in place, which outlines the company’s policy and plans for the future. As a new starter, you’ll receive a thorough induction. Any essential training will be given priority and you’ll undertake this almost immediately. Development Reviews are held with your line manager every six months. During these meetings, you’ll discuss your work and related future development, identifying any training or development you require to be effective and feel confident.

As well as general training courses and seminars, you can also apply to undertake further education courses at college or university, which the Combined Authority may fund. If you are a member of a professional body relevant to your position, then we will also pay for your annual subscription fees.
 

Countywide MCard

Every employee gets a free, annual, countywide bus & rail MCard (zones 1-5), which entitles you to unlimited free travel on the bus and trains within West Yorkshire, resulting in significant savings on your travel costs.

Pension

The Combined Authority offers membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme to all employees. This is a career average salary scheme and your contribution is calculated based upon a percentage of your gross earnings.
 

Holidays

You get 28 days holiday entitlement each year, in addition to Bank Holidays. Holiday entitlement increases to 30 days after 5 years service, and to 32 days after 10 years. You can also purchase additional holidays by sacrificing your equivalent salary.
 

Flexitime

We offer a flexitime system for most office-based staff, which enables you to vary working hours in accordance with the business requirements of the organisation.

Free Eye Tests

We will cover the cost of an eye test every two years, and will contribute towards the cost of lenses/glasses if appropriate.

Uniforms

We provide the majority of our frontline staff with company uniforms, ie. Customer Support Assistants, Travel Centre staff and Travel Surveyors.  
 

Union Membership

The Combined Authority operates within a system of collective bargaining with recognised trade unions, UNISON and Unite to negotiate terms and conditions of employment for employees. All employees have the opportunity to arrange membership should they wish.
